Routes and Trails
This area is well known for its routes and trails to showcase the heritage and beauty that Aberdeenshire and surrounding areas have to offer. Whether you are cycling, on foot or driving there is something to suit everyone. Some popular trails are:
NE250 Trail
The North East 250 explores everything for which Scotland is famous in a unique Scottish road trip taking you through the whisky distilleries of Speyside, the spectacular mountain passes of the Cairngorms National Park, the famous castles of Royal Deeside, the Granite City of Aberdeen, the rugged North Sea coastline to the east, and the picturesque seaside villages of the Moray Firth Coast.
The Malt Whiskey Trail
Scotland’s Malt Whisky Trail, the only one of its kind in the world, winds through stunning Speyside, taking in seven working distilleries, one historic site, and the Speyside Cooperage. Known as ‘Malt Whisky Country’, Speyside is home to over half of Scotland’s malt whisky distilleries and forms one of the nation’s five whisky regions.
National Cycle Network Scotland – National Route 1
Part of both the long-distance Coasts and Castles route and the North Sea Cycle Route, National Cycle Network Route 1 connects Aberdeen City to the Highland capital of Inverness.
North East Castle trails
